Im finally getting better at boys clothes!

When I first started designing Children's clothing and patterns I mostly designed pretty little for girls. Lacey and feminine and so easy to make. I never really tried to make anything for boys, I had no boys to make anything for and found boys clothes boring and couldn't find anything that didn't look like anything else.

And then I found out that I was going to have a nephew. I really had no clue how to shop or make stuff for boys but I finally had a reason to try. Now I find boys clothing easier and cute in ways that girls clothes just can't be :-)

Here are some of my favourite examples :)

alpacas wool inspired cardigan pattern!

I love splashing out and buying slightly more expensive or different to the usual 100% wool or acrylic. When I saw alpaca wool blend on special for just $2 for a skeen I had to buy it.

I tried to make myself a cowel but I accidentally made a baby cardigan. Again. It happens far too often. I've decided to share the pattern I made inspired by this awesome yarn.

This pattern was made using a 6.5ml hook and a very chunky yarn and makes a cardigan big enough for a six month old baby.  To make button holes simply chain one in the place of one double crochet where you think looks best.

Chain 44 (or a different multiple of four for a bigger/smaller cardigan)

Row 1: Double crochet in each chain (44 dc)

Row 2: Four double crochet, two bobble stitch in one double crochet from R1. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

Row 3: Five double crochet, two double crochet in one from R2. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

Row 4: Six double crochet, two bobble stitch in one double crochet from R3. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

Row 5: Seven double crochet, two double crochet in one from R4. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

Row 6: Eight double crochet, two bobble stitch in one double crochet from R5. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

Row 7: Nine double crochet, two double crochet in one from R6. Repeat until end of row, chain two. Turn.

This is the round yoke of the cardigan, there should be a total of 90 stitches.

Row 8: 14 double crochet, skip 18, 26 double crochet, skip 18, 14 double crochet, chain two, turn. This will leave arm holes where you can add selves if you like!

Row 9-15: 54 double crochet, chain two, turn.

Row 16-17: One double crochet, one front post treble crochet, repeat, chain two, turn. This will make the ribbing at the bottom and the fptc can easily be replaced with dc if you prefer!

This is the body of your cardigan! To make the arms simply double crochet in the round until you reach the desired length.

Enjoy your new cardigan!

Sometimes the best projects are the ones that you plan and then change the whole concept half way through. They end up being completely different to anything you ever imagined and that's what makes them somehow perfectly imperfect.

That is exactly how cabled cardigan with a tractor applique was designed , and maybe that's why I love it. Check it out on our Facebook page!

pretty pink cardigan and hat.

I'm not sure why, but whenever I see a little baby in a warm looking woolen cardigan I feel like they are well loved.

Maybe its because I understand all of the work that goes into making a hand crafted piece of clothing.

Or maybe its just because they always have more character than store brought clothes.

Either way that feeling is what inspired this lovely little set. It is size 2-3 years and looks so chunky and warm.
